Karen J. Mcmillen

December 13, 1947 — November 9, 2022

Altamont - Karen J. McMillen, 74, passed away peacefully surrounded by her adoring family at St. Peter’s Hospice on Wednesday November 9, 2022.

Born in Delmar, New York on December 13, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Arnold and Ruth Wood.  Karen was a 1966 graduate of Bethlehem Central High School. Karen worked as a private duty nurse for several years. She always said, “helping people was her calling.” She was the owner and operator of a very successful home cleaning business for over 30 years.

Before retirement, Karen could often be found in her many gardens. She certainly had a green thumb  and always enjoyed the peacefulness and beauty of gardening.  Karen had a real eye for home decorating and she loved sharing her ideas.  Her love of animals, from feeding stray kittens to feeding the ducks with her grandchildren were some of her favorite times.

Karen’s greatest love was for her family and friends.  Nothing brought her more joy than talking, laughing, and reminiscing about old memories.  She was truly an amazing mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend.

Karen was predeceased by her three loving sisters Nancy Carter, Jean Gillespie, and Helen Wood as well as her loving brother Ronald Osborne.  Survivors include her devoted children Hiedi Ruth (Matt), Jason Kaulfuss (Allison), and Keith Kaulfuss (Becky);  her beloved grandchildren Cody Martel (Taylor), Jarod Martel (Kenzie), Hannah Kaulfuss, Ellie Kaulfuss, Ian Kaulfuss, Shane Kaulfuss, Bryn Kaulfuss, Charlie Kaulfuss, and her great granddaughter Rian Martel.  Karen is also survived by her loving brother Alan Wood along with several adoring nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank her best friend Monica Bauerschmidt for her fifty years of love and friendship.  Also, thanks go out to Karen’s amazing neighbor and friend Candace Graves, who was there for her through thick and thin.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Karen’s family on Tuesday from 4 to 7 pm at Cannon Funeral Home, 2020 Central Ave., Colonie.  Memorial contributions may be made to The Ronald McDonald Charities of the Capital Region, 139 S.
