Dennis P. Farrell

COLONIE – Dennis P. Farrell, 77, passed away on Monday July 12, 2021 at Albany Medical Center. Dennis was a 57-year survivor of Type 1 Diabetes and powered through almost four years of dialysis, only to be taken from us at the hands of an impaired driver.

Born in Albany, Dennis was the son of the late William “Dapper” and Rosemary Farrell. He was a 1961 graduate of Christian Brothers Academy and graduated from Hudson Valley Community College and Russell Sage College. Dennis was a long-time coach and officer at Colonie Little League and was Past President and manager of the Whitehall Babe Ruth league at “Dapper Farrell” Park in Albany. Dennis enjoyed a career as a food broker with BEM Sales and Marketing for many years. He was an avid fan of the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Dennis is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Kathleen Redmond Farrell. He is the devoted father of Kristin (Daniel) Ruggles, and Dennis P. Farrell Jr. He is survived by brothers Timothy (Mary Sheridan) Farrell, and Patrick “Louie” (Maureen) Farrell, and was predeceased by brothers Brian, Terry and Mitchell Farrell. He is also the brother-in-law of Marianne Farrell. Dennis was immensely proud of his grandchildren Scott Brown, Kayli Farrell, Samuel Ruggles and Quinntin Farrell. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and his dear friends John and Ann McGraw. The family would also like to extend its sincere thanks and gratitude to the Westmere Fresenius Dialysis team, as well as Albany Medical Center’s Doctors Andrew Coates and Stephan Martone and all the Surgical ICU trauma nurses.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Monday, July 19th from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Cannon Funeral Home, 2020 Central Avenue, Colonie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:00 am at St. Clare’s Church, 1947 Central Avenue, Colonie. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens.
