Windel G. Watson, 84 of Albany N.Y. passed away Friday evening July 21st, 2023 at Albany Medical Center after a brief illness. Windel was born on October 1st, 1938 to the late Margrette Green and Joshua Watson in St. Ann, Jamaica WI.
Windel had very little formal education growing up in St. Ann but he learned great work ethics by working on the farm helping to support his mother and siblings. He continued working hard for years doing double duty to bring his family to the United States in the 1970’s. He did seasonal work and was employed at the State Capital, NYS Office of General Services retiring in 2002 after 23 years of service. After retiring he spent his time at Stewarts on Henry Johnson Blvd. (until Covid-19) meeting with friends daily discussing life in Arbor Hill and world events, he also an avid pool player. Windel was affectionately known to most as Mr. Watson, Watson, Wato Pops, Grandpa and Uncle Watson.
Windel leaves to cherish his memory his children: Barbara (Cliff) Bent; Anthony, Neville, Rosaline and Andrew Watson. Children in love Michael Johnson and Robin Johnson (caregiver). Also, physical and emotional caregiver/supporter Grandson in love, Ricky Burton. His siblings: Dondi, Mary and Junni of Jamaica; Pet of Canada. A host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A special nephew Sonny (Wardlord) Watson. Extended family and friends. Special friends Bernard (Ena) Smith; Nate Pulliam and Michael Gordon. Goddaughters: Jody, Jacquie, Ebony and Shannissa.
Besides his parents he is predeceased by his companion of 40 years, Dorothy Mennies; his brothers: Uriah, Virgo, Madon and his sister, Ivory (Ivy) Watson Grant.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00am Monday, July 31 at Cannon Funeral Home, 2020 Central Avenue, Colonie. Calling hours will be held from 9:00am to 11:00am prior to the service. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens.
