ALBANY – William D. Kelly, 83, of Albany, passed away on Sunday, August 19, 2018 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
He was the youngest of eight children to Thomas and Catherine Kelly. Bill served in the US Air Force from 1952 through 1956. He was a commercial printer serving for 33 years at the Albany Times Union where he retired as the Composing Room Foreman. He resided in Charleston, South Carolina for nineteen years before coming back to Albany. Bill enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, boating, fishing, traveling, playing cards, manhattans with three cherries, bourbon with 6 ice cubes, and lots of storytelling. Bill and Carol also enjoyed garage sales and amassed a collection of squirrels that exceeded 300. An avid golfer, he was proud of his hole in one. He was the former husband of the late Dorothy R. Kelly.
Bill is survived by his wife, Carol Roach Kelly; his children, Mark (Cindi) Kelly of Cincinnati, OH., Daniel Kelly (Melody Diamond) of Raleigh, N.C., Kevin (Kellie) Kelly of East Greenbush, Gary Kelly of North Greenbush and Megan (Joseph) Dodd of Loudonville. Bill is the brother of Regina Kelly of Syracuse. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Bill’s family on Thursday evening from 5 to 7 pm at Cannon Funeral Home, 2020 Central Ave., Colonie. Entombment will in Saratoga National VA Cemetery.
