COLONIE – William J. Crowley, 73, of Colonie, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at his residence.
He was raised in North Albany and was the son of the late Gerald F. and Elizabeth Rutledge Crowley. Bill served in the US Coast Guard from 1964 through 1968. He was employed by Niagara Mohawk for 32 years, retiring as Chief Cable Splicer. He held office in two unions that served Niagara Mohawk Power Corp., Local 137 and Local 97. He was a member of the company’s 25 year club. He was member of American Legion Post 1610 for 52 years and proudly served as a member of their color guard. Bill enjoyed many winters in Ft. Myers Beach, Florida.
Bill is the beloved husband of fifty years to Linda Homicz Crowley. He is the father of Gerald Crowley of Colonie and Shannon (Dave) Gray of Ft. Myers Beach, FL. Uncle of Sue McMahon Kane and Deb (Ryan) McMahon. Cousin of Patrick Rutledge. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was predeceased by siblings, Marie Crowley McMahon and Francis Crowley; his nephews, Jim McMahon and Jack Kane.
Funeral services will be Thursday morning at 8:30 at Cannon Funeral Home, 2020 Central Ave. Colonie then to Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Walter St., North Albany at 9:30 where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Bill’s family on Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to The Community Hospice, Gift Processing Center, 310 S. Manning Blvd. Albany, NY 12208 in memory of William J. Crowley.
