Virginia P. Albert

COLONIE – Virginia Antoinette Portanova Albert, 88, of Colonie passed away on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Jersey Shore, PA to the late Lucido and Philomena Florimonte Portanova.

Virginia worked for the New York State Attorney General, the New York State Assembly and New York State Office of Court Administration. For many years, she was an Ambassador at the Albany International Airport. Virginia was a volunteer at the Albany County Convention Center and has been an usher at the Palace Theater and Proctors Theater.

She was the wife of the late Kenneth L. Albert. Virginia is the beloved mother of Nancy Albert Field of Atlanta, GA.; Capt. James L. (Joni) Albert of Naples, FL.; and David K. (Frances) Albert of Slingerlands. She is the grandmother of Katharine (Howard) Connell, Meredith (Tyler) Snellings, Justin J. Albert, Caroline S. Albert. She is the great grandmother of William and Avery Snellings, Henry and Willow Connell. Virginia is also survived by her sister, Yolanda Cavalieri, and is the sister of the late Anthony, Vito and Arthur Portanova and Mary Rossi.  She also leaves her dear fiancé and companion of 25 years, William “Bill” Baestlein, with whom she graduated from Albany High School in 1951 and met again at their 45th high school reunion.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 23 at 10:00 a.m. at Cannon Funeral Home, 2020 Central Ave., Colonie. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Virginia’s family on Saturday morning from 9 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie.
