ALBANY – Thuy X. Khong, 79, of Albany, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 28, 2023 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Hanoi, Vietnam and was the son of the late Canh Van Khong and Suy thi Pham. During the Vietnam War and at the age of 26, Thuy was serving with the Vietnamese Army when he was seriously wounded. He was the only survivor of his troop and his injuries were life threatening. Thuy was brought by US helicopter to Seventh Fleet of the US Navy located in the Pacific Ocean and kept him there for several months. After nearly fifty surgeries and outstanding care, he eventually made a remarkable recovery.
Thuy came to the US in 1975 having been sponsored by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany. He was a mail sorter for Brigar Inc for many years. Thuy enjoyed fishing and was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Albany.
Thuy is the beloved husband of Tuyet Tran. He is the devoted father of Anh Khong. He was predeceased by two sisters and a brother. Thuy is also survived by several in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Thuy’s family on Friday from 5 to 9 pm at Cannon Funeral Home, 2020 Central Ave. Colonie. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday morning at 10am at Sacred Heart Church, 31 Walter St. North Albany. Interment will be private at St. Agnes Cemetery.
