Thomas H. Hobbs

June 29, 1942 — November 23, 2021

GUILDERLAND – Thomas H. Hobbs, 79 of Guilderland, passed away on Tuesday, November 23, 2021. Tom was predeceased by his parents Thomas H. Hobbs and Therese Zurek Neal and his precious sons, Tommy and Jeffrey.

Tom is survived by his loving wife and companion of over 21 years, Linda Romano-Hobbs (Wright); adoring children, Dr. Laura (Brian) Sawyer of Winter Haven, Florida and Melissa (Dan) Chambers of Colonie and stepchildren, Kristine Romano (Frank Cox) of Chatham, Maria Romano (Pat Kelly) of Schodack and John J. Romano III of East Nassau. Tom adored his grandchildren, Michaela, Phillip, Isabella and Brighton Sawyer; and Amanda and Jacob Chambers. He was a special “Grandpa” to his three step grandchildren, Tyler and Collin Kelly and Dylan Knight. Tom is survived by his caring and loving siblings, Sister Rose Hobbs RSM, Elizabeth Graver Haskey, Kathy (David) Ladue, Charles (Nancy) Hobbs, Michael Hobbs and Anne (David) Wigley. He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews that called him Uncle Tommy.

Tom graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy and Maria College in Albany. He worked for thirty years as a proud member of Local 40 Heat, Insulator Asbestos Union. Tom worked for many years at nuclear sites with a seven-year tenure at West Milton Nuclear facility. Tom then went to work for the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, where he retired in 2015.

Tom met his beloved wife Linda at a dance, and together they danced for the rest of their lives. Tom and Linda loved to travel and enjoyed countless days at their home at Queechy Lake, NY; winter trips to Florida and summer relaxation on Lake George, enjoying their children and grandchildren. Tom so enjoyed his family get-togethers in Thatcher Park, bowling with the boys, following the Yankees and Islanders and was known for his rendition of Mack the Knife.

Tom was a follower of Bill W. for over 35 years. He fought and conquered alcohol addiction with an inner strength and fortitude that was admirable. Tom touched many people’s lives in the program and made great life-time friends through A.A. Tom led by example and was a study in resilience. He always had a smile on his face and never had an unkind word for anyone.

As Tom would often say, “I’m living the Dream”. “The measure of a man is in the lives he touches. To measure a man, measure his heart” Tom had the biggest heart. Tom’s light will forever shine in our hearts and in all the beautiful memories he left us with.
