Sylvia E. Politano

Schenectady - Sylvia Estelle Politano was peacefully called to heaven on Monday, December 11, 2023, at the age of 89, after a four-year struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. Sylvia was the youngest daughter of Anthony Politano and Cecelia Osowicki Politano.

Sylvia is survived by her 6 children, Thomas Barrera, Carla (Mike) Caisse, Rita Brink (Laurie Barber), Susan (Laszlo) Mako, Robert (Mary) Barrera, and Linda Koenig. Also having countless grandchildren (4 generations), her fun-loving spunky spirit and sarcastic nature would always make us laugh and will truly be missed by us all.

Sylvia had the true spirit of an entrepreneur. Real Estate was her passion and it showed with her large portfolio of over 50 properties. Having owned and operated countless businesses including dry cleaners/laundromats, motels and a consignment shop, to a hair salon, multiple restaurants, a trucking company and a cleaning service, there was absolutely nothing that she couldn’t do!

Wintering in Florida was her favorite part of the year and having a Manhattan up at 5:00 sharp each day with her potato chips and a lifetime movie was her favorite pastime.

May God grant Sylvia eternal rest and peace with her late first husband Carlos Barrera, her beloved second husband Rudolf Koenig, her late significant other George Whiting, her brothers Anthony Jr. and Bummer Politano, and her beloved grandson Christopher Caisse and step great grandson Austin Carroll.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Sylvia’s family on Sunday December 17, 2023, from 2 to 4 pm at Cannon Funeral Home, 2020 Central Ave. Colonie. Funeral services will be Monday morning at 10:30 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens.
