Sylvia (Reale) Mauriello

November 12, 1920 — November 22, 2017

COLONIE – Silvia Mauriello, 97, of Colonie, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at Ellis Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Arpino, Province of Frosinone, Italy and was the daughter of the late Guiseppe and Speranza (Gabriele) Reale. Silvia was predeceased by her husband Anthony S. Mauriello in 1983.

Silvia immigrated to America at the age of 9 with her parents and brother August.  During World War 2, while not yet an American citizen, she chipped in with the war effort by making radio tubes for the United States Navy at General Electric in Schenectady.  On the 28th of July, 1944 she proudly received her Certificate of Citizenship.  She also worked for the Freihofer Baking Company as well as a seamstress in a glove factory.  She would later retire from the State of New York.  In 1956 she married Anthony (Tony) Mauriello who she had met through his sister Connie, who was a coworker at GE.  Silvia and Tony enjoyed a loving marriage blessed with two children.  Silvia enjoyed baking cakes, cookies and made the best Italian Easter Bread.  Every year she would make over 100 jars of fresh tomato sauce which everyone enjoyed over her homemade linguini and cavatelli.  She was also blessed with four grandchildren who meant the world to her.  She instilled a strong sense of family in her children and grandchildren.  She was a kind and generous person with a very strong will who wasn’t afraid to speak her mind.  During her 97 years on this earth, she touched the hearts of many people.  Her family was blessed to have had her loving guidance, she will be dearly missed by all.

She is the beloved Mother of Frank (Natalie) Mauriello and Madeline (Jim) Greene. Dear sister of Peter (Pia) Reale, Victor Reale and the late August Reale. Cherished grandmother of Vanessa and Victoria Mauriello, Tony and Tommy Greene. Sylvia is also survived by several brother and sister in laws, nieces and nephews.

The Mauriello family thanks Dr. Francios Vachon and the Nursing staff at Ellis Hospital for their kind and compassionate care.
