Orlando, FL - Shirley Jeanette (Elliott) Jensen, age 95, of Orlando, Florida, formerly of Albany New York, went home to be with the Lord on January 3, 2023.
She was born on January 31, 1927 in Albany, NY, to the late Louis and Anna Schultz Elliott. She graduated from Albany High School and married the late Richard C. Jensen, Sr. on August 19, 1946.
Shirley was a beloved contributor to and member of the West Albany and Orlando communities. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother, Vice President and President of the West Albany Elementary School PTA, Secretary of Colonie Central School District PTA Council, EMT, crew chief, and driver of the West Albany Volunteer Fire Department Ambulance Service. A 50 year life member with the West Albany Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. A charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW Weininger Post, former member of the Colonie Elks Ladies Auxiliary, and a golfer with the Fairways league.
She sang in the St. John Lutheran and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church choirs and sang solos and duets with husband Richard in church, community and fire department variety shows.
Immediately following high school, Shirley worked for the New York Telephone Company and later for the South Colonie Central School District as a bus driver, the New York State Labor Department, and retired from the New York State Social Services.
Upon moving to Orlando, Shirley became a communicant of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Oviedo. As a resident of The Fairways, she enjoyed playing golf, line dancing, Bible study, and hosting card games.
Shirley is survived by her 5 cherished children: Steven Jensen of Kailua, HI; Richard Jensen, Jr. (Theda) of Salem S.C.; Gregory Jensen (Patti) of Albany, NY; Donna Swanson (Al) of Glenmont, NY; and Deborah George (Late Larry George) of Orlando, FL. She also leaves 6 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.
