Sheila A. Hutchinson

January 16, 1952 — August 16, 2024

Halfmoon - Sheila A. Hutchinson of Halfmoon, passed away on August 16, 2024 after an extended illness. The daughter of the late Francis and Catherine Fearon, Sheila was born and raised in Guilderland, N.Y. and was predeceased by her loving parents, her brother Barry Fearon, and her best friend and partner-in-crime Connie Fitzgerald.

She was survived by her husband of 53 years, Richard Hutchinson, Jr., daughters Carrie (Chris) Osborn, Lindsey (Jason) Pensabene, beloved grandchildren Harrison and Lucy Pensabene, sister Ellen Brodhun, and several nieces and nephews.

Sheila was vibrant, energetic, creative, and loving; never one to allow others’ expectations to dictate her choices. She had gifts for creativity and making things beautiful, and she was someone who said yes to music, parties, road trips, traveling. She often said, “It’s your life”, encouraging her loved ones to make choices that would make them happy. Sheila was at heart a caretaker, who chose to live in a way where she helped countless people, never expecting to receive credit or anything in return. She volunteered in many capacities throughout her life, with many different organizations that serve populations that need help, but she was also a helper by nature, who saw a need and addressed it. More than once, she made a friend who did not have family, and would bring them to her house for a meal. She did whatever it took to help others and continued to take care of others even while enduring her own illness.

Sheila was an active and essential presence in the lives of her family, from the time her children were small, and she was a recognizable face from volunteering in the schools and supporting her girls’ pursuits, to being the mystery reader at her grandchildren's school. She was a proud and enthusiastic ‘Mimi’, and over the years she found herself talking about football, playing Pokemon Go, attending rock concerts, and laughing about her grandchildren’s shenanigans. She was always creating fun and exciting experiences for them and celebrating their milestones.

Sheila has been involved with, and especially passionate about The Hope Club, an organization sponsored by the American Cancer Society that focuses on enhancing the quality of life of all patients through a wide variety of activities, services and support. Community Hospice of Saratoga was wonderful to Sheila and her family.

Should anyone wish to honor her life and memory by contributing to either organization, donations can be sent to ACS Hope Club, One Penny Lane, Latham, NY 12110 and Community Hospice of Saratoga, 179 Lawrence St, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.

For the compassionate care Sheila received, the family would like to thank Community Hospice of Saratoga, and the staff of 6 McAuley at St. Peter’s Hospital, especially Sheila’s favorite nurse Molly Kirby.

In keeping with Sheila’s wishes, funeral services will be private. To leave a message of condolence for the family, visit www.CannonFuneral.com
