Colonie - Samuel Martino Jr, 76 of Colonie, passed away at Shaker Place Rehabilitation and Nursing Center during the early morning of August 3, 2023.
Sam was born on Aug 27, 1946, to the late Catherine Weller and Samuel Martino Sr. in Albany NY. Samuel graduated from Cardinal McCloskey High School in the class of 1966. Following graduation, he proudly served in the US Army during which time he completed a tour of duty in Vietnam.
As a young man, Sam was a laborer and helped with the construction of the Empire Center, better known as the The Egg, in Albany NY. Sam was also quite the entrepreneur operating his own laser printer remanufacturing company in Rensselaer NY. He sold his successful business and moved on to a career in which he truly enjoyed, driving school bus for South Colonie school district for many years, from which he retired.
Sammy was a devoted Christian, an avid fan of the NY Giants and NY Yankees. He enjoyed traveling, old vintage cars, making people laugh, and helping others.
He leaves behind his loving family, daughter Kristine Martino of Colonie, son Steven (Nicole) Martino of Delmar, and brother Paul Martino (Ginny) of Colonie, friend and former spouse Gloria Galea Gasorowski (Stan) along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
In addition to his parents, Samuel was predeceased by his sister Helen Hand, and his three brothers Joseph, Thomas, and James Martino. Samuel is now joined in Heaven with his grandson, Liam.
Friends and family are invited visit with Sam’s family on Tuesday, Aug 8th from 10:30 am to 12pm at Cannon Funeral Home, 2020 Central Ave., Colonie. A prayer service will follow at 12 noon. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
