Russell S. Bedinotti

December 28, 1942 — December 7, 2024

SLINGERLANDS – Russell S. Bedinotti, 81, of Slingerlands, passed away on Saturday December 7, 2024 at Ellis Hospital.

He was born in Cohoes on December 28, 1942 to the late Louis and Stasia (Piwnica) Bedinotti. Russell grew up in Cohoes and had many fond memories of childhood that stemmed there. He spent many summer days swimming and hiking the Cohoes falls with his brother Louie and friends- a favorite memory. He was an exemplary student, excelling in math while he attended Cohoes High School.

He then joined the US Air Force and served for 20 years. He rose to Master Sargent rank and duties included guarding President Kennedy during his famous speech in Berlin. He was also stationed during his military career in Greece, Turkey and Germany where he met the love of his life, Ingrid. They were blessed with one daughter, Ingrid. Russ was a doting father and family man. After completing his 20 years of military service, for which he was extremely proud, Russ worked for MCI and Verizon as a consultant bringing his technical logistic expertise of communication to business deals of many state, federal, and private companies.

Upon retirement, he enjoyed traveling to different countries and spent time in Germany, Holland, the Alps, and Guatemala, where he met his two oldest grandsons Sam and Lucas. He was a tremendous grandfather. He enjoyed time on Lake Canadarago during the summers. An avid fisherman, he was happiest when he was teaching his grandsons how to fish, enjoying a glass of wine on the dock with his daughter, completing any number of “handyman” projects, and closing the summer nights overlooking the lake with his wife from the perch of their cottage deck. Russ spent recent winters in the warmth of the south shore-fishing and taking strolls up and down the beaches of western Florida, as well as spending time with his family. He also immensely loved to be in his workshop and was able to fix ANYTHING. Woodworking was his passion, and he enjoyed restoring antique clocks.

Russ is survived by his beloved wife Ingrid; his daughter Ingrid (Michael) Ungerland, and his siblings Louis (Lea) Bedinotti, Sandra (Paul) Gansle and Todd Bedinotti. He is the grandfather of Samuel, Lucas, Hunter, Eli and Leo and Isaiah. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
