COLONIE - Robert Frederick Van Zandt, Sr. (Bob), 81, of Colonie, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family on Monday, January 22, 2024.

Bob was born August 27, 1942.  Son of the late George Van Zandt and Blanche Wawanolette- Van Zandt.

He graduated from Cardinal McCloskey High School in 1961.

Bob was a member of the Heat and Frost Insulators and Allied Workers Local #40, a self-employed contractor and retired from SUNY Albany as a painter.  He had a passion for sports cards and was the owner of Sports Cards Plus.  Bob enjoyed carpentry and woodworking.

Bob is predeceased by siblings Jack Van Zandt, Bernice Van Zandt; grandchildren Jessica Van Zandt, Thomas “Tommy” Cox.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Frances Van Zandt; children Robert F. Van Zandt, Jr. (Lisa), Robin Van Zandt, Michele Rubino (Joseph); grandchildren Cailin Makar, Leah Shewmaker, John Morgan Van Zandt, Erin Van Zandt, Anthony Rubino; great grandchildren Mila Makar, Tristan Shewmaker, Landon Shewmaker and several nieces and nephews.

Services to be held at Cannon Funeral Home, 2020 Central Avenue, Albany on Friday at 12:30 pm. Visitation will be Friday from 10:30 am to 12:30pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens.
