COLONIE – Robert J. Fontaine, Sr., 93, of Colonie, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 20, 2023 at his residence, surrounded by the love of his family.
He was born in Cohoes and was the son of the late Leo P. and Rhea Fontaine. Bob was predeceased by his loving wife of 70 years, Marie F. Rapp Fontaine and his grandson, Anthony J. Paradise.
He was a 1948 graduate of Catholic Central High School. Bob served in the US Navy during the Korean War. He was a bakery manager at Suny Albany for many years, retiring in 1991. Bob was a member of the Rotterdam Elks #2057, Thunder Rd. and Hart Seniors Club. He enjoyed nothing more than being with his cherished family.
Bob is the devoted father of Robert (Todd) Fontaine Jr. of Silver Spring, MD., Kathleen R. (Richard) Link and Karen J. (Raymond) Paradise of Colonie. He is the cherished grandfather of Jessica (Jason) Miller, Candace (Johnathan) Spychalski, Rebecca Vergare, Jammie Link and Zachary Paradise. He is the great grandfather of Brendan and Brayden Miller. Bob is the brother of Arthur Fontaine and the late Bertrand, Gerald, George, Raymond and James Fontaine, Jeanette Burr, Blanche Charbonneau and Doris Halloran.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Bob’s family on Friday from 4 to 7pm at Cannon Funeral Home, 2020 Central Ave. Colonie. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday morning at 9:00 am at St. Clare’s Church, Colonie. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens.
