Mitchellville, MD - Rita Joyce Schiavone, 90, formerly of West Lawrence Street, Albany, NY and Duanesburg, NY passed away Saturday evening (April 20, 2024) at Collington Life Care Community in Mitchellville, MD, where she had resided since 2001.
Rita was born on April 7,1934 to Dominic Michael Schiavone and Sophia Albert (Schiavone) Randall in Albany, New York. After completing her studies in the Albany Schools and Albany Business College she worked as a clerk for the Donnelly Company in Albany, NY for many years. She enjoyed watching wildlife, caring for her family cats, music and helping others. She was a faithful Catholic who kept everyone in her daily prayers.
While living at the Collington Life Care Community in Maryland with her brother Albert and sister-in-law Marie, Rita enjoyed watching the birds come to her feeder on her back porch, singing in the Collington Singers and attending weekly Catholic Services. Rita was a communicant of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Albany, NY, and Holy Family Catholic Church in Mitchellville, Maryland.
Besides her parents, she is pre-deceased by her brother Albert Louis Schiavone (2009), her sister-in-law Marie (2005), and her niece Phyllis Marie Schiavone (2023).
She leaves her niece and caregiver Janine Mauersberg (Stephen) of Owings, MD, her nephew Stephen Schiavone (Susan) of Jamestown, NY, and numerous grand and great nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am Monday May 6 at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 900 Madison Avenue, Albany. Burial will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands, NY.
A calling hour will be held from 10:00am to 11:00am Monday at the church prior to the mass.
