A beautiful soul went to Heaven unexpectedly. His name was Richard Guerreiro. We can’t wrap our heads around this horrible news. Our hearts are crushed. All of us would love to hear just one more stick ball story or the pick up street football games that were supposed to be two hand touch, but were always a “bit more” in NYC. As anyone who grew up downstate would know…
Richard had a tough life even from early on. And calling it rough is an understatement. It was old-school street life. Yet he thrived. He had succces over and over, but also had unexpected defeats that almost wiped him out. He survived triple bypass heart surgery because he “wasn’t about to let her off that easily”. Sometimes his stories may have been unsavory or may’ve sounded embellished a tiny bit lol. But one thing one learned about Richard from the second you met him was that he was one of the kindest and most generous persons, he was blunt with the truth, and he was even more blunt with calling someone out who’d been fakes. A conversation was NEVER boring with Richard.
Richard’s partner in life, the Bonnie to his Clyde, señora Luisa LaRosa. They were married for 23 years, through bad times and good times. His life was marked by ups and downs, but what stayed constant was Richard’s loyalty to those he loved. The unexpected untimely passing of his step-daughter, Liliana, was crushing to Richard and was one of the worst experiences he’d ever had in his life. Not even 3 weeks before his death, Richard said surviving that loss meant he could survive anything.
Richard is survived by his wife Luisa. Also surviving him is his brother Robert (Janet) and their children, Michael Guerreiro, Thomas Guerreiro, and Lisa (Robert) Fuchs. He was beloved by Luisa’s children, Oscar (fiancée, Maya, who herself considered Richard a father to her also), Oscar’s children (Matthew, Sofia and his billiards partner, Nicolas) and by Liliana’s children Andrew and Gracie.
Richard is predeceased by his beloved mother, Jean P. Swiderski, his father Manuel Pires Guerreiro, and his beloved step daughter, Liliana LaRosa. Though he is free of pain now, we know he’s laughing it up with his mom and Liliana. The hole his death has caused each of us to have is immeasurable. Rest In Peace to an original who did it his way.
