The Reverend Richard B. Lehmann, age 67, of Schenectady, NY, went home to be with the Lord on July 11, 2022 after a short illness. He was born in Jamaica, Queens, NY on December 4, 1954 to loving parents Richard C. and Ruth Lehmann. He grew up in Franklin Square, NY. He moved with his family to Schenectady, NY in 1993 and lived in upstate New York the rest of his life.
A lifelong scholar, Richard attended Nassau Community College, Long Island Bible Institute, and North Central Bible College in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He continued his theological and Biblical studies at Gordon-Conwell Seminary and finally Mercer Theological Seminary.
He served with the Episcopal Diocese of Albany for many years, first as a Deacon and then as a Priest (ordained in 2008). Most recently he served as Assistant Priest at Christ Episcopal Church in Ballston Spa, as well as a Chaplain at Ellis Hospital. In addition to his service to the church, Richard had many secular jobs at local hospitals and nursing homes where his care and compassion for others shone through.
Richard was a multi-talented musician who wrote music, sang, and played the guitar and piano. He loved listening to music, especially classical, jazz, classic rock, and Christmas songs. Writing was another of his passions. He wrote many poems and stories, and recently completed a novel which will be published posthumously. Known for his sense of humor, humility, love of reading and coffee, Richard’s greatest accomplishment and joy was his family. A loving and devoted husband to his wife Christine of 40 years, he is also survived by his children Kathryn and Andrew (Sara), granddaughters Sofia and River, new great-grandson Alfie, his sister Joan, many nieces and nephews, close relatives and friends, and dog Addie.
Funeral Service will take place on August 6 at Christ Episcopal Church 15 W. High St in Ballston Spa. Calling hours at 11am followed by service at 12 noon.
Service and internment of ashes will take place on August 20 at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church 50 Sacandaga Rd in Scotia. Calling hours at 4pm followed by a service at 5pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations to help cover medical bills and funeral expenses are much needed and appreciated. Donations in memory of Fr. Richard can be sent to Christ Episcopal Church in Ballston Spa. 15 W. High St Ballston Spa, NY 12020.
