Menands - Patricia Gorman, 95, of Menands, NY, died on November 18, 2022 after living a long and fulfilling life.
Born in Rochester, NY, to Kenneth C. and Frances (Comstock) Richmond, Pat was raised with her siblings Gail, Kenneth, and Nancy in Garden City, NY and spent her summers on Ocean Beach, Fire Island, NY. Ocean Beach would become her summer home for most of the rest of her life. She received a BA in Elementary Education from Adelphi University’s Mills College in Manhattan, after which she taught kindergarten in Elmira, NY until she married Thomas J. Gorman in 1952. The Gormans were transferred by Allegany Ludlum Corporation to the Albany area in 1958, where they eventually settled in Menands, NY. After the death of her beloved husband Tom in 1986, Pat split her time between Menands, Fire Island, and Naples, Florida.
She always had a strong belief in contributing to her community. She was a substitute teacher at Menands School for many years. She also volunteered for and supported many community based service, educational, and arts organizations including the Girl Scouts, the Equestrian Outreach Center in Jerome, MI, College of Saint Rose, Siena College, and the Guadalupe Center in Immokalee, FL.
Always a curious person, anyone who ever met Pat would walk away wondering why they had told her their life story. Her curiosity often led her into unusual places, like the battle of the (heavy metal) bands, in which she thought she was going to a marching band contest. But Pat was game for anything new!
Patricia is survived by a sister, Nancy Mueller (Madison WI); her 5 children: Nancy (Wayne) Herron, Diane (Greg) Crosley, Janet Gorman, Virginia (Michael) Yonkers, and Thomas (Silvia) Gorman; 9 grandchildren: Brooke Crosley, Bridgett Wyncoop, Caitlin Crosley, Jake Herron, Rebecca Herron, Adam Yonkers, Drew Herron, Robyn Yonkers, and Abbigayle Gorman; and 2 great grandchildren.
At her request, there will be a private interment at a later date. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Ocean Beach Volunteer Firefighters Benevolent Association, PO Box 362, Ocean Beach, NY 11770 or the Guadalupe Center, 509 Hope Circle Immokalee, FL 34142 (https://www.guadalupecenter.org/donate-now/).
