Nancy C. Berkery

LATHAM - Nancy Berkery was born Nancy Crayon to Harry and Helen Crayon. She died peacefully on February 25, 2021 in the very same place where she was born 92 years ago at the Hoosick Falls Health Center on April 10, 1928.

She grew up in Hoosick Falls and moved to Latham where she married the late Fred Sheehan who passed away in 1969. She spent over 50 wonderful years in Latham where she raised her two surviving children Janice (Matt) Osborne and Edward (Sheila) Sheehan both of California.

Being a young widow and single mom, she joined Van Schaick Island Country Club and took up the game of golf. There were few things she loved more. She spent many wonderful summers playing in the ladies’ golf league.  She had the time of her life at the parties and tournaments held by the club. It was at one of these tournaments that she met the second love of her life, the late Jim Berkery. She is survived by her stepsons Jim (Ruthie) Berkery and Tom (the late Judy) Berkery.

Nancy was a great cook and loved to entertain. She could work wonders behind a sewing machine. She made and designed many of her own clothes. She loved to travel and enjoyed her many trips to California to see her children and grandchildren. Known for her red hair that she always wore high in a bun, she was also known to dye her hair green on St. Patrick’s Day!

She is survived by her loving grandchildren Casey, James, Amanda, Tracy and Kyrie as well as her great grandchildren Landon, Leila, Logan and Luca.
