Michael McCumber, 63 of Colonie, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2021. Born on July 13, 1957 in Gouverneur, NY, he was the beloved son of Helen McCumber and the late Clifford McCumber. The family moved to Loudonville in 1967 and Michael attended North Colonie schools. He played pop warner football and was an active member of Boy Scout Troop 64; achieving the rank of Eagle. A 1975 graduate of Shaker High School, Mike (Cuke), was proud to wrestle and play football for the Mighty Bison.
Mike attended Paul Smith’s College and SUNY Cortland. He worked at Fairchild for several years, followed by AJ Rinella Company. Mike especially enjoyed working as a coach with the Watervliet wrestling program.
Always an avid sports fan, Mike enjoyed following local sports; including, attending the state wrestling tournament yearly, high school football games, Albany State lacrosse games and cheering for Syracuse teams. His favorite pro teams were the NY Yankees and the Cleveland Browns.
Mike loved spending time at Reed’s Retreat on Trout Lake; a special place to stay connected with family throughout the years. Always great fun swimming, boating, playing games, and sharing stories around the campfire. Mike’s favorite by far was jumping off Rock Island.
Survivors include wife Nancy; children: Stefan (Susan) Williams, Rachel Williams, Michele Dinardo, Ashley (Ryan) Parker; grandchildren: Cadence and Lexi Williams, Kellan Parker; siblings: Lora (Brent) Yanulavich, Mark (Jeanine) McCumber and Linda (Todd) McIntyre; nephews: Eric and Scott Yanulavich, Christopher McCumber and niece Jennifer McCumber. In addition, he is survived by his beloved dog Jillian, extended family and cherished life-long friends.
Mike’s family is most grateful to the staff at Shaker Place Nursing facility and the Community Hospice of Albany for their compassionate, excellent care.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Mike’s family on Tuesday, May18th from 4-6 at Cannon Funeral Home, 2020 Central Avenue. At 6PM, there will be a brief prayer service and the opportunity for family and friends to share memories of Mike.
Memorial contributions may be made to a cause close to your heart or to the Community Hospice of Albany.
