Affectionately nicknamed “Mir”. Mir was educated at Our Lady of Angels and Mercy High School. Mir had a career in the education field but all would agree, the true shining light and love of Mir’s life was her family. Fiercly devoted to the care and concern of her loved ones, Mir spent her entire life putting the needs of others above her own. Mir’s home was the mainstay of the family, where you were always welcome for a cup of tea. Mary was quite active in her younger years with her father at the Ancient Order of Hibernians in Albany, she was an excellent cook and enjoyed summers with her family at Burden Lake, where she was an exceptionally strong swimmer and water-skier.
Proud to be of Irish birth, Mary remained grounded in her Co. Kerry roots and her faith. Mir loved a good Irish sing song and could often be heard singing her trademark pieces Oh Dear Eire and the Twelfth of Never, she loved music and was a beautiful dancer, especially the jitterbug. She would often be seen bouncing her grandchildren on her knee and singing the Irish songs. She will forever be remembered for her love and care of others, especially children and the sick. A true lady with a remarkable resilience and strength to face the tragedies life had given her. Our beautiful Rose of Tralee is gone, she is treasured and adored, a tremendous loss, forever in our hearts.
Mary’s children and brothers would like to extend their gratitude to St. Peter’s Hospital for their loving care.
