Albany - Mary A. King, 74, of Lowville, was called home on Friday, August 3, 2018. Born on May 1, 1944, in Albany, Mary was the daughter of the late Reuben A. Hawkins and Ruth E. (Daly) Hawkins.
Mary attended School #20 in Albany and continued her education at Hudson Valley Community College. Mary worked in the mental health field for years, Joe’s Catering, and retired from NYS Office of General Services, as a Keyboard Specialist.
She was a member of the Wilborn Temple First C.O.G.I.C., and devoted time to the church community providing counseling services as a Christian advisor. Mary was a member of the Out Reach Program at Mt. McGregor Correctional Facility in Wilton and provided Christian support at the homeless shelters.
After retirement Mary became a snow bird. She was an independent woman and continued to live life. She loved attending flea markets.
She is survived by 3 children, Gerald J. Peterson, Sr. (Tammy) of Mechanicville, Lance Peterson (Carrie) of Minnesota, Stephanie Peterson of Colonie and predeceased by her daughter, Petrina Peterson. Mary also leaves behind several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Brother, Daniel (Grace) Martin of Albany. Predeceased by her husband, Ronald King; brothers Gerald O’Connor and Lawrence Clark.
