Mary Lynne Haglund

COLONIE – A Celebration of Mary’s life will be held on May 19, 2018, in lieu of her daughter’s birthday, at the Midway Fire Department 1956 Central Ave Colonie NY 12205 starting at 11:00am. Since pitch-ins were one of Mary’s favorite things the Celebration will be just that. Please feel free to bring food or beverage and memories to share.

Mary Lynne Haglund 68, of Colonie, died suddenly on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at Albany Medical Center following a stroke the previous day, that took her life away. She was born in St. Johns, Michigan and was the daughter of Jean Audrey (Meyer) McNeil and the late Fred Warren McNeil.

Mary was the partner in crime to Daniel H. Haglund and they were married for 42 years, and it is not irony that 42 is the meaning of life, the universe, and everything. (The answer is 42,  which is from the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, one of Mary’s favorite books.) They were married on May 15, 1976. She was the nerdy mother of Katherine Mary (Jeff) Pape nee Haglund and Daniel B. Haglund. She was the sister of Kathy Strausburg, Scott McNeil, Joan Cordle, and Janice Gillespie. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She also leaves behind her cat Sophie, who has spent many hours scolding the remaining humans in her life.

Mary graduated from Kalamazoo College in 1972 and from Eastern Michigan University in 1974 with a MS in Clinical Psychology. She worked in the mental field for years, and became a full time mother for the first years of her children’s lives. As her children grew up she continued to help others by becoming an educator. Mary was a tutor at schools, a learning center, and in private environments. She helped spread knowledge and did so in such a way that people enjoyed learning. Mary also spent her time knitting, sewing, and creating things for others.
