Athens - Martin Rainer Steinke passed away on August 19, 2024, with his family by his side and forever laid to eternal rest.
He is predeceased by the love of his life, Virginia E. Steinke, and his siblings Siegfried, Inge, and Krystal.
Martin is survived by five beloved children and their significant others Jason (Christina) Steinke, Shaun Steinke, Yvette (Brian) Vumbaco, Thomas (Celeste) Steinke, Christopher (Amanda) Steinke eleven grandchildren, whom he loved dearly, Kirsten, Rachael, Jessica, Lorenzo, Xavier, Cordelia, Filomena, Arlo, Axel, Elizabeth, Isabella and one great grandchild, Teagan, and his other siblings, Helga, Gert, and Eva.
Although he had many physical and heath challenges in his life for many years, he was very strong willed in mind & spirit...just like a tough ol' German. He enjoyed listening to various types of music. This eventually led to his hobby of burning CDs as gifts & downloading numerous songs, 109,000 plus! He also enjoyed attending, with Mike, the concerts of a local band, "die Schlauberger". He always said the name translated to "the wise guys." He also enjoyed treating loved ones out to a casual lunch or dinner at his favorite local restaurant, always ordering one of the local strongest brews of beer as his beverage choice and/or the "dessert coffee" with a delicious dessert to satisfy his sweet tooth.
The family would like to thank the staff at Albany Medical Center for caring so well for Martin and his family for the last 3 weeks and to Excel PT in Coxsackie for the last 18 years of physical therapy each week.
To celebrate his life and memories, there will be an intimate and private family gathering at a future date. To leave your condolences for Martin’s family please visit www.cannonfuneral.com.
