Martha A. White

January 19, 1938 — December 18, 2024

Loudonville _- Martha A. White, 86, of Colonie N.Y., passed away peacefully on December 18th with her family by her side.  She is now reunited with the love of her life and cherished husband, Tom.

Martha was born in 1938 to Arthur and Mozelle Cunningham in Fairfield, Alabama.  Martha was a true southern belle, full of life, and love for her family and friends.  If you knew Martha, you knew her chocolate chip cookies were the best you’d ever have.

Martha was married to Sgt. Major Thomas C. White for forty-seven and a half wonderful years, until Tom’s death in 2012.  A proud Marine Wife through and through.

She is survived by her daughter, Debra White of Colonie, and the proud “grandmother” to her Grand Dog,  Archie Bunker White.  Martha is also survived by her baby brother Alan Cunningham (Lisa) of Homewood, Al., her Sister and Brother-in-Law Susan & Michael White and many Nieces and Nephews: Dr. George White (Holly), Artie White (Chrissy), Michelle Fealey (Bill), Leslie Connors (Bill), Jeff White (Denine), Christopher White (Michele), Michael White (Ashley), Kimberly Bradford (James), Lauren Gavin (Dan), Katie Cunningham, Bobi Cole (Dan), Candy Cunningham, and many very special great nieces and nephews she truly adored.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Thomas, three brothers – Eddie, Art and Billy Ray Cunningham, her brother and sister-in-law George and June White, and brother-in-law Richard White.

She had many jobs throughout her life in banking, she was the Secretary at Mercy High School, and worked in the Learning Resource Center at Maria College.  Besides taking care of her family, Martha loved to help others and volunteer.  She was a proud Mercy Associate and volunteered numerous places including the VA Hospital in Albany, Maria College, Our Lady of Mercy Life Center, Mercy Convent, St. Peter’s Hospital, Sacred Heart and St Johns/St. Anne’s Soup Kitchens, and in her later years was a constant prayer warrior – if you knew her - you were on her long list of daily prayers.

Martha loved her parish of St. Pius X and her very special connection with the Mercy Convent which is where you could always find her for Mass and socializing.  The Sisters of Mercy have always been a second family to the White Family.

Debbie would like to thank the staff at Community Hospice - especially her very special Aide Cori and Nurse Rosemary; Martha’s friends who were so selfless in helping with her care:  Alice Abrams, Mary Bosquet, Sue Kwiatkowski, Tom and Christine Lindsey, Joanne and Mary Ellen Scheibly, Chloe VanAken, Susan White; and all of our family and friends who mean the world to us.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Martha’s family on Sunday from 3 to 5 pm at Cannon Funeral Home, 2020 Central Ave. Colonie. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated  on Monday morning at 10:00 at the Convent of Mercy Chapel, New Scotland Ave., Albany.
