COLONIE – Marion M. Vigars, 92, of Colonie, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at the Inn of Community Hospice, surrounded by her loving family.
Marion was born in Colonie, the daughter of the late George and Mary (Goetz) Brodbeck. She grew up on a farm on Wolf Road and was an avid roller skater. Marion was a member of the Albany High School Class of 1948 and after graduation went on to raise a family while working on the family farm and at various family businesses. In 1976, she began working as a data entry operator at the New York State Education Department, where she excelled as an expert and speedy typist and made many friends. Marion retired from State employment in 1992 and afterwards enjoyed travelling and spending time with her family and many pets.
She loved hot and humid weather, wearing flip flops, and travelling to Florida, especially Vero Beach and Disney World. She enjoyed eating sweets of all kinds but was particularly fond of pies from Grandma’s Pie Shoppe, Freihofer’s fruit cake, and Entenmann’s hot cross buns. Most of all, Marion loved animals. She rescued countless cats and dogs, many of which simply appeared on her doorstep and made themselves at home on her lap. Marion was also known to feed squirrels and other neighborhood wildlife—at least until she found a squirrel in her kitchen helping itself. She made sure that the bird bath in her yard was always full of cool, clean water and loved to watch pelicans catching fish on her many trips to Florida. Marion could often be found sitting on her front porch enjoying the sunshine and watching the world go by.
Marion was predeceased by her former husband Chester A. Vigars Jr. and her son Chester A. Vigars III.
Marion is the beloved mother of George (Cathy) Vigars. She is the cherished grandmother of Katie Vigars. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be private. Interment will be in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Ave., Albany, NY 12204. To leave a message of condolence for the family, visit www.CannonFuneral.com
