ALBANY – Margaret “Peggy” E. Connell, 93, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 2, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born August 25, 1929, in Cambridge, NY and was the daughter of the late Thomas Mulligan and Margaret Powers. Peggy was educated in Cambridge and graduated in 1948. After graduation, Peggy moved to Albany to live with her sister Mary. She married her late husband Charles (Chuck) Connell, the love of her life, who passed away in 1990. She worked at Montgomery Ward and later for New York State as an audit clerk in the Comptroller’s Office.
Peggy had a wonderful life and made the most of her 93 years. She was always the center of the Connell Family gatherings, of which there were many. She loved camping trips with her husband and children in their younger years. Her grandchildren loved special times baking Grammy’s famous chocolate chip cookies with her. She enjoyed playing quinella, Wednesday night bingo, Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, romance novels and lottery scratch-off tickets. Most of all, she enjoyed just being with her children and grandchildren.
She loved to travel and went to many places with Chuck, including Ireland and Germany and visited Ireland again with her daughters. She made trips to Nevada with her daughters to visit her granddaughter and many trips to Iowa, with her daughter Linda and husband Dennis (the best son-in-law, she always said) to visit her son Joe and family. She loved the ocean and cherished her times with her children and grandchildren during their annual vacations in Gloucester, MA. Although she traveled many miles in her lifetime, some of her favorite trips were short ones to the Racino and Rivers Casino.
Peggy is survived by her children Sandy, Linda (Dennis), Kevin, Joe (Monica) and Dan (Melanie) Connell. She is the devoted Grammy of Andrea, Brian, Nicole, Sean, Charlie, Katie, Leo, Gavin and Ian – all of whom will miss Grammy dearly. She is also survived by her two sisters Jean (Don) Lesperance and Celie Fitzgerald, and many nieces and nephews.
After 33 years, Peggy is finally reunited with Chuck and they are now dancing together with the angels, looking down upon their beautiful family.
