Niskayuna - Margaret Mary Ostergren (“Peg”) of Niskayuna passed away on February 1st, 2025, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany, NY, surrounded by loved ones.
Peg was born in Glangevlin, County Cavan, Ireland on December 9th, 1932, to the late Catherine and John Maguire. She emigrated to New York City in 1949 and was employed in the Accounting Department of Bell Labs on West Street. She met the love of her life, Stanley Ostergren, in 1954 and they were married in 1956. Stanley’s work with General Electric took them to Rome, NY, Bryn Mawr, PA, and back to Schenectady where they settled down in Niskayuna in 1970. There, Peg worked for the Department of Criminal Justice in Albany for twenty-two years.
Peg was a communicant of St. Kateri Tekakwitha Church, where she did volunteer work with two different groups helping to cook and serve lunch at the Salvation Army soup kitchen, and belonged to a church group who picked up and donated food at the two churches and delivered it to the Inner City Mission on Albany Street.
She is survived by four children: Daniel, Kathleen, Rosemary, and Roger; four grandchildren: Crystal, Audrey, Eleanor, and Gavin; and great-grandchildren Sigmund, Evan, and Matthew.
Friends and family are invited to attend a funeral Mass at St. Kateri Tekakwitha, 1803 Union Street, Schenectady NY, 12309 on Friday, February 7th, 2025, at 9:00 AM. Burial will follow at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna. Memorial contributions may be made to Saint Kateri Tekakwitha church.
