It is with profound sadness that we share the unexpected passing of Margaret "Margie" Anne Knickerbocker on September 20, 2024. Born in Albany on August 22, 1960, she was the daughter of the late Patricia (Wells) and Francis “Mickey” Fahlander.
Margie graduated from South Colonie High School in 1978 and two years later, married her high school sweetheart, Daniel “Danny” Knickerbocker. This past August, Margie and Danny celebrated 44 beautiful years together. She treasured spending time with her family, enjoying parks and walking trails, and new restaurants with Danny and Tucker, her cherished dog, by her side. Danny was her loyal taste tester and Margie loved creating new dishes for him and their family to enjoy. Margie also had a passion for history and would often plan day trips or vacations exploring historic sites or museums. Her love of the water would draw them to lakes and oceans for many family vacations, especially to Cape Code and New Hampshire. If she was not out exploring, Margie would be enjoying the sun on her deck, tending to her garden, floating in the pool, or kayaking with a cup of hot tea always within arm’s reach.
Margie was the heart of her family, radiating warmth and care that was binding. Her unwavering love provided a haven for those she loved. She is survived by her husband, Daniel Knickerbocker, son, Jonathan Knickerbocker daughter, Bridget (Kyle) Osborn, and sister, Patricia (John) Starr. She had a special place in her heart for her niece, Kayla Starr. Her three loving grandchildren, Oliver, Arthur, and Amelia brought her so much joy. She cherished her extended family.
Margie hosted countless summer picnics, Sunday morning breakfasts, birthday parties, and holiday celebrations for her family. While she enjoyed celebrating and decorating for all the holidays, Christmas was her favorite. It was tradition for Margie to make Christmas breakfast to be enjoyed by all in their Christmas pajamas. Her Christmas tree will always be remembered for being impeccably decorated, having an ornament on every branch, all perfectly placed. It brought her so much joy to host these frequent family gatherings. She loved nothing more than having her family together.
Margie proudly served the Niskayuna School District, specifically Birchwood Elementary, as a Teaching Assistant for 30 years. She was passionate about supporting the teachers she worked with and had a special way of helping her students grow. During her tenure at Birchwood, she was honored to have supported countless students in achieving their full potential. Over the years, Margie felt privileged to work with so many wonderful individuals and treasured the friendships and memories that were made.
In addition, Margie loved her many grand puppies and grand kitties; Moose, Girl Kitty, Jack, James, Harrison, and Gizmo who always gave enthusiastic greetings when she arrived. She held memories of the late Bear, Fireball, and Buddy close to her heart.
