Marcelle B. Muniak

May 21, 1936 — May 2, 2020

Colonie - In the afternoon hours on May 2, 2020 Marcelle B. (Lafortune) Muniak, 83, received her angel wings, to rejoin her husband, Walter P. Muniak in eternal life.

Born May 21, 1936, in Lachute, Canada, to the late Blanche (Paquette) and Joseph Lafortune.  Marcelle was the youngest of sixteen children.  In June 1956, Marcelle graduated from the Conservatory of Saint Croix, where she studied music and earned the distinction as a Concert Pianist.  Her life’s course changed shortly thereafter when she met her soulmate and forever Wally. They married Sept 3, 1956, among friends and family in Lachute, Canada.

In their earlier years, they called Long Island, NY home and then made their way to Latham, NY where they raised four children and lived there for over 25 years.  During that time, Marcelle worked for the Dept. of Taxation and Finance for over 13 years.  Marcelle loved to garden, she was an amazing cook and was a DIY long before it was popular!  She was never shy to try new things.  Thereafter, life took them to Manahawkin/Long Beach Island, NJ where Marcelle enjoyed working for Century 21 Real Estate & Beach Haven Township.  She also loved entertaining family and friends and beach time at the shore.  Marcelle returned to the Capital District and was the sole caregiver to her beloved husband until his passing in 2014.

Marcelle leaves behind her loving children; Carolyn Micheli Bayly (Phil), Clifton Park, NY, Steven T. Muniak, Michele Mutschler (Jim), East Greenwich, RI, Christine O’Connell (Tom), Bristol, RI.  In addition, Marcelle held an incredibly special place in her heart for her cherished grandchildren, Dean Micheli, Cassandra Muniak (Tom), Jason Mutschler (Abbey), Rachel Mutschler (Reid), Emily Mutschler, and Kaelyn O’Connell (Andrew).  Marcelle was also a Godmother, aunt, great aunt, and cousin to many.  Survived by her dearest friends Dot Bartaris, Marielle Lafortune and her entire loving family in Canada, as well as Richard Muniak and family.

In addition to her parents, Marcelle was predeceased by her nine sisters and six brothers and son-in-law, Elio Micheli Jr.

A special thank you to Marcelle’s compassionate companion Joanie, “All the Jacks, Dianes & Danielles” as well as Pastor Wally for their loving care and songs.

The celebration of Marcelle’s life has been postponed until an admissible time.  Burial will be private.  Until then, continue to remember Marcelle as the amazing woman she was, who always had a song to share.  She lived her life dancing a conga line while leading her beloved grandchildren, family, and friends along the way.  To those who were fortunate to have been on the receiving side of Marcelle’s love and most generous hugs, take peace in knowing there is an angel watching over you.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Colonie EMS, 312 Wolf Rd. Latham, NY 12110.  To leave a message of condolence for the family visit www.CannonFuneral.com
