Lynes R. Gervais

December 24, 1925 — July 14, 2017

LATHAM - Lynes Gervais, our beloved Father and Poppie, passed into eternal life on July 14th at the age of 91, with his family by his side. He was the son of the late Homer and Leah (Bombard) Gervais.  He was also predeceased by his sister Virginia Cappallo and brothers Homer and Eugene Gervais.

On June 14, 1947 he married his beloved wife, Cecile (Ceil) and enjoyed a wonderful life with her for 66 years until her passing in 2013.  Lynes was employed by the Tobin Packing Company for 26 years until its closing in 1981 and then employed by the New York State Office of General Services, retiring in 1987.  He was a member of VFW Post 2192, the Zaloga Post 1520 of the American Legion and St. Francis de Sales Senior Citizens Club and served as the club’s president/vice president for five years.  Lynes was a proud veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific with the U.S. Navy Seabees and received  honored recognition at the Seabees Veterans of America Convention in July, 2016.

Lynes is survived by his daughter Donna (Tom) Parent and son Richard (Elaine) Gervais.  He was the beloved “Poppie” to grandchildren Nicole (Jim) Brown, Michelle (Ken) Blair, Denise (Dave) Pritchard, Marc Gervais (Amanda) and Cheryl (John) Ernst.  He was “great Poppie” to 11 great grandchildren, Zachary, Mackenzie and Nicholas Brown, Ryan and Kyle Blair, Sarah and Heather Pritchard, Kayleigh and Chloe Gervais and Lauren and Austin Ernst, as well as extended family.  He will be missed by his good friends at Hearthstone Village Apartments.

The family would like to thank Community Hospice staff, especially Robin, St. Peter’s Hospital 6th floor staff and the Eddy Heritage House Rehabilitation Center staff for their caring support and compassion.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, July 19 from 4-7 P.M. at Hans Funeral Home, 1088 Western Avenue, Albany, NY.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 A.M. on Thursday, July 20 at St. Ambrose Church, 347 Old Loudon Road, Latham, NY.  Burial with military honors will be held in Memory Gardens. Memorial contributions in Lynes’ name may be made to Community Hospice Foundation, 310 S. Manning Blvd., Albany, NY 12208.
