Louis J. Petrucco

Colonie – Louis J. Petrucco, 79, of Colonie, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 27, 2024 at his residence surrounded by his loving family after a brave fight with pancreatic cancer.

He was born in Niskayuna and was the son of the late Renato and Helen Petrucco. Lou was married to Kathleen (“Ginny”) Petrucco on February 5, 1972.

Lou was a graduate of Mohonasen High School, RCA Institute, and served in the Air Force National Guard. He had a long career at General Electric Research & Development in which he received many awards and patents. Additionally, he worked hard to support his family with a small business repairing TVs, small engines, and cars.

Lou will be remembered as a lifelong tinkerer, mechanic, craftsman, and jack of all trades. He took great pride in his work and filled a home and workshop with countless examples and memories of his skills and craftmanship with cars and woodworking.

Lou, along with Ginny, had a love for Greyhounds and they enjoyed their many greyhound rescue dogs.

Lou is survived by wife Ginny (Willard), his son Mike Petrucco of Tully, and daughters Kathy Petrucco of Schenectady and Renee Longo (Tim) of Rexford. He is also survived by his grandchildren Mia, Aidan, and Paul (PJ) Longo, and Eleanor, Scott, Ben, and Simon Petrucco.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother James Petrucco and his son Brian Petrucco.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Lou’s family on Monday, January 06, 2025 from 4 to 6 pm at Cannon Funeral Home, 2020 Central Ave., Colonie. Funeral services for the family will be Tuesday morning at 10:30 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at St. Cyril & Method Cemetery, Rotterdam.
