Albany – Louis Joseph Mineau, 83, born April 23, 1941, firstborn child of the late Constance (O’Connor) and Louis A. Mineau, died peacefully on September 24, 2024, after a long and good life. He was the beloved companion of 50 years of Donna Bisceglia Deming. Known by many as “Big Louie,” he was generous to family and a larger-than-life presence wherever he went in the Albany area. He was loyal to and well-liked by countless friends.
A lifelong Albanian, Lou was a graduate of Blessed Sacrament Elementary School (Class of 1955), Vincentian Institute High School (Class of 1959) and attended Russell Sage College Evening Division. He was a 35-year employee of the NYS Department of Transportation. Lou was also a long-time referee at area football games and was a former President of the Capital District Football Officials Association. He was a founding member and coach for the West End Little League in the 1960’s.
For many years, Lou was an active member of the Albany Hibernians and proudly served as The Grand Marshall of the Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade in 2001. For 20 years, Lou served at the Treasurer of the Albany Twilight League.
Lou is survived by his beloved companion, Donna Bisceglia Deming. He was the oldest brother of Robert Mineau (Rosemary), Constance Jalet, Margaret Mineau, Gerald Mineau (Kathy), Ted Mineau, Gregory “Pete” Mineau (Nancy) and Paul Mineau (Bridget). In addition to his parents, Lou was predeceased by his sisters Gayl Doherty and Joan Mineau. He is also survived by brother-in-law Jack Doherty (Dede Flacke) and Donna’s siblings Tom, Jim and Jan.
Lou was the uncle of 16 nieces and nephews, and the great-uncle of 15 great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by dear cousins, and countless dear friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family at Cannon Funeral Home, 2020 Central Avenue, Albany, NY on Friday, October 4, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Funeral services will commence at 12:00 noon at the funeral home. Internment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Glenmont, NY.
