ALBANY - Leona Rosamilia Kern, born on September 23, 1924, passed away peacefully Friday, December 8th, at the age of 99 at the Teresian House in Albany, NY. She was born in Troy, NY and was the daughter of the late Luigi and Sania Pascucci Rosamilia. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Warren G. Kern.
Leona was a graduate of St. Patrick’s grammar school and Catholic Central High School in Troy. She was employed as a secretary at Behr Manning until she married.
Leona was happiest when surrounded by her children, grtandchildfren and great-grandchildren. The door to her home was always open to friends and family at all hours of the day and night. Some of Leona’s past accomplishments were:
Member of St. Patrick’s Mother’s club for several years while her children attended the school
Stanley Home Product sales consultant
RPI Mailroom worker
A few of Leona’s favorite interests include her love of dancing: No matter what style of dance or how she was! As soon as she heard music, she was up and moving. The Kern family took one vacation each year: Camping! Leona made sure her husband chose the perfect campsite where she could see people milling about, watch the children meet new friends and sit around the campfire each night. Finally, Leona was one who truly enjoyed life, family and friends to the fullest.
Leona is the cherished mother of Susan (Keith) Merrill, Michael (Wendy) Kern, Mary Beth (Bill) Dallas, Trish Foster, Robert Kern, Daniel (Leila) Kern and Mick Kern. She is survived by 17 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. Leona is the sister of the late Pasquale, Joseph, Louis and Antoinette Rosamilia, Philomena Rosamilia Scarchilli and Lucy Rosamilia Madden Lozon.
The family wishes to express its deepest gratitude to the staff of Teresian House for the expertise, care and attention to Leona during her last years. Special thanks to Dr. Nicola, Deb, Beth, Virgin, Dan, Sandy “KK” and Austin.
