Colonie – Kevin John (Kope) Kopach, Sr., 73, of Colonie, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 28, 2022, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. He fought a valiant, five year battle with cancer.
He was born in Troy and was the son of the late Stephen and Genevieve Kopach. Kevin was predeceased by his brothers, Michael and Andrew Kopach. He was a 1967 graduate of Linton High School, served in the US Air Force Reserve and was a member of the American Legion.
Kevin was the longtime superintendent at Wunderlich Sand & Gravel in Latham, having been instrumental in many projects throughout the region. He was a quintessential Jack of all trades, never afraid to help family and friends. Kevin was a volunteer for twenty five years at Colonie Little League serving in a variety of positions including managing three teams to the NY State 12 year old championship.
If he was not working in the garden, you may find him at his camp on Schroon River or fishing in Alaska. His favorite event of the year was hosting a Christmas breakfast for over 100 people. He was a huge New Orleans Saints fan, having seen them play in Green Bay, New York and Atlanta….all wins! WHO-DAT!
Kevin is the beloved husband of fifty years to Doris (Purzycki) Kopach. He is the devoted father of Kevin J. Kopach, Jr., (Jill Hoffay) and John K. Kopach. He is the cherished Grandpa of Oliver and Julianne Kopach. Kevin is the brother of Patrick (Donna), William, Philip (Mary Rose), Christopher (Rosalyn), Stephen (Joy Pasquariello), Matthew (Patti), Catherine (Tom) Nicchi and James Kopach (late Michelle). He is the brother-in-law of Maureen Kopach, Michael (Irene), Richard (Teri), Robert (Penni), Stanley (Lori Cranker) and Helen (Michael) MacDuff. He is also survived by many niece & nephews, and two step-grandchildren, Jordan and Jenna Hoffay. He will be sorely missed by his canine companion, Tucker.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Kevin’s family on Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Cannon Funeral Home, 2020 Central Ave., Colonie. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday morning at 10:30 at St. Ambrose Church, Latham. Facial coverings are required for all services. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie.
