Kerstin S. Romanucci

Niskayuna - Kerstin S. Romanucci, formerly of Niskayuna, passed away on January 10, 2025.

Born November 10, 1931, in Gothenburg, Sweden, she was the daughter of the late Anna Ebba Karolina Smedberg, and Karl Lennart Ingemar Smedberg.

Kerstin moved to the Captial District in 1962, from New York City, with her husband, the late Demostene Romanucci, MD. Together they ran his surgical practice, until their retirement 1995.  The doctor and Kerstin met at the Brooklyn Hospital, where Kerstin was the Operating Room supervisor, and RN.  She maintained her license until her retirement.  In 1984, Kerstin received a Bachelor’s Degree from St. Joseph’s College in Maine.

Kerstin’s hobbies were gardening and needlepoint, and cross-stich.  She was a devoted member of Loudonville Community Church.  Attending there for over 55 years.

Her father died from complications of Rheumatic fever when she was about 9 years old, Kerstin, her brother and two sisters were raised by her single mother, in occupied Sweden, during WW 2.  After the war, Kerstin was sent on ahead to live with relatives, on Long Island.  By 1950 she was living in Bay Ridge, and working at the Brooklyn Hospital.  In 1962 they moved to Albany, and eventually settled in Niskayuna.

Kerstin is survived by her sons, Demostene Romanucci, Esq., (Maria Bortugno Romanucci) of Loudonville, NY, and Eric Romanucci, MD, (Rebecca) of Scottsdale AZ, and grandchildren Dante Romanucci (Kierstin), Eric Romanucci, II, and Nicolette Romanucci.
