ROTTERDAM – Joseph Blaze Syron, 94, passed away on August 1, 2024 in the comfort of his home with his children by his side. Born February 3, 1930 in Carbondale, PA to parents Joseph T. Syron and Helen Mannion Syron Bellew,
Joe grew up in Oneonta, NY.
Joe served his country in the U.S. Army from 1950 – 1953 and deployed to Okinawa, Japan and the Philippines during the Korean War. Shortly after returning home, Joe moved to Rotterdam to work for Spaulding Bakery. During this time, he met the love of his life, Joan Marie Bouck. They married in 1956, remained local and raised their family.
He worked many years for Spaulding Bakery (later Millbrook) making deliveries locally and much of the North Country. He loved this job and enjoyed meeting & talking with all people along his route. He also went on to pursue a different career at the Golub Corp. working as a battery maintenance mechanic. Here was yet another place Joe formed many lifelong friendships.
Joe was a loving, friendly, gentle man full of kindness who enjoyed making conversation with everyone he met. He was an avid sportsman playing (fast pitch) softball, coaching Little League, bowling and loved to watch the
NY Yankees and the NY Giants.
He is pre-deceased by his loving wife of 50 years, Joan Marie Syron, sister Elizabeth (Joe) Signore, brothers Bob (Judy) Syron, James (Rita) Syron, brother-in-law Paul Lambert and grandson, Nicholas B. Syron.
Joe is survived by his children, Jeffrey (Katie) Syron of Princetown, Janice Syron of Greenfield, MA, Joseph (Barbara) Syron of Rotterdam, siblings Barbara Lambert of Cooperstown, Michael Syron of Oneonta, Mary Ellen (Frank) Antonucci of Milford, as well as several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces & nephews.
All services will be held Wednesday, August 7th, with calling hours from 10:00am to 12:00pm followed by a memorial service at Cannon Funeral Home 2020 Central Ave., Colonie. A Christian burial with military honors will immediately follow at Schenectady Memorial Cemetery on Giffords Church Rd. in Rotterdam.
