Joseph L. Reddix

October 26, 1937 — October 4, 2019

Joseph (Joe) L. Reddix, 81, was called to be with Lord on Friday, October 4, 2019.  He transitioned peacefully at home with his wife Mildred by his side. Joe was born Oct 26, 1937, in Vancleave, Mississippi.  He was preceded in death by his parents Solomon Reddix and Cynthia Bloxton.

In 1963, with his family, he relocated to Albany, NY. To provide for his growing family Joe held employment with St. Peter’s Hospital, Agway, and Alco Equipment Company.  He retired from Alco Equipment Company in 1999.  Joe was a masterful mechanic.  Working on cars was a hobby, and for a short time, a small business adventure.  His fascination with cars drew him to car shows and to a past time of drag racing at the Lebanon Valley Speed Way, where he won and brought home many trophies. As an outdoorsman, Joe loved to hunt and to fish.

Early in life, Joe accepted Christ as his personal Savior.  He united with the Greater Saint John’s Church Of God In Christ, Albany, NY, and remained a long time member.  Joe was a proud family man, and he took great delight in spending time with his entire family and creating fond family memories. He also enjoyed spending time with many friends on Delaware Street, in the area affectionately known as the "Mississippi Hole”.

Joe leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife of 61 years, Mildred McGill Reddix; his beloved children: Joseph Reddix of Gautier, MS, Evearn Reddix-Broughton of Gauitier, MS, Carolyn Spencer, Shubuta, MS, Tom Reddix of Ravena, NY, Ernestine (Steve) Landy, Christine Reddix and Jasper (Frances) Reddix, all of Albany, NY; brother Henry Bloxton of Mobile, AL, sister Mary James of Mobile, AL; 16 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchild, and a host of extended family and friends.  He was preceded in death by his daughter Linda Reddix and by his brother Jerry Bloxton.

Homegoing service will be held Thursday, October 17, 11:00 a.m., Greater St. John’s Church of God in Christ, 74 Fourth Avenue, Albany, NY.  Visitation from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Interments at Graceland Cemetery.
