Colonie – Jose M. Samson, 88, of Colonie, passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2018.
Beloved husband of Anne Samson. Devoted father of Jose, Jeffrey (Lauren), Jennifer (Joe Bill) Lain, John, Jannine (Mark) Audino, Carl (Alisha) and Eric Samson. Brother of Antonio Samson S.J., He is also survived by 10 cherished grandchildren. Beloved uncle of Christine Hale, Antonio Quiogue and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jose' was born in Palawan, Philippines and lived in Manila during the Japanese occupation. He joined the Merchant Marines as a teenager and traveled the world for 10 years before settling in New York and starting his first family of five. He was a devoted and involved father, active in the Colonie Little League, Booster Club and Indian Guides. He was a founding member of the Bayanihan Association, an active Colonie Republican, an officeholder and steward in both CSEA and PEF unions. He loved to bowl, play poker and vacation in Hampton Beach with his family. He married a second time and raised two more sons, still a devoted and loving father. He had successful careers with the NYS Health Department and Office of General Services, and during retirement volunteered as an ambassador at the Albany International Airport and with the RSVP program. He served as Adoration Coordinator and was a loyal communicant of Christ our Light Church. He was a kind, loving, funny and loyal man.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday evening from 4 to 8 pm at the Cannon Funeral Home, 2020 Central Ave, Colonie. Funeral services will be Thursday 10 am at Christ Our Light Catholic Church, 1 Maria Drive, Loudonville. Interment will be at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Siena College, Development and External Affairs, 515 Loudon Road, Loudonville, NY 12211.
