Schenectady – John R. DeVarnne, 75, of Schenectady, passed away on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Albany County Nursing Home. He was born in Schenectady and was the son of the late Raymond and Myrtle DeVarnne.
John served proudly with the US Navy from 1959-1970 and basked in the life of a sailorman. He was a self-employed carpenter and always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. John also worked for General Electric Co. and Apria Healthcare. He will be remembered for his kind and giving big heart. He was a well known bingo player and was always singing, dancing and whistling. John was a volunteer with Rotterdam Ambulance. He was a collector of POW MIA Flags
John is survived by his wife Luella DeVarnne; his children, Janet Lynn Rigolosi, Shane Keenan, Laura Cicio, Nicole Kopczynski, John Reid, Brent DeVarnne, Sara DeVarnne and Chantel Smith. He is the brother of Josephine Faith Lincourt, Mary Marx, Sara Flanagan, Frances Bender and the late Carl, Raymond and Joseph DeVarnne. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Friday morning at 9:30 at Cannon Funeral Home, 2020 Central Ave. Colonie. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 7 pm at the funeral home. Interment with full military honors will be at Saratoga National VA Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans., 245 West Houston St., Room 204, New York, NY 10014.
