John R. Oddy

COLONIE – John R. Oddy, 77, of Colonie, passed away on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital.

He is the beloved husband of Barbara Fulton Oddy. He is the devoted father of Heather Kittle and Jedidiah (Amanda) Oddy. John is the grandfather of Emma Kittle and the cousin of Judy Doggett. He is the brother of Catherine Ferguson, Kenneth (Peg) Oddy, Robert (Peachy) Oddy, Elizabeth Kenneally, Sueanne Robertson and the late Joseph Oddy, Mary Donato, Beverly Sprague and Helen Donato. He is Uncle to Ian (Christine) Robertson and Mike (Judy) Oddy. He is also survived by many other nieces and nephews.

He was born in Albany and is the son of the late Kenneth and Evelyn Brown Oddy. John began his career as a licensed surveyor with Hershberg & Hershberg working on many projects in the Capital Region including the South Mall and Urban Renewal. He later opened his own business which gave him the opportunity to volunteer his skills in land surveying and site development in the building of Kingdom Halls where people could gather to worship and receive Bible education. John loved to share with people in his ministry the hope of the future when the dead will be resurrected to a paradise earth. He served for many years as an Elder in the Colonie Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. John was a licensed private pilot. He loved fishing and camping in the Adirondacks and enjoyed sharing that with his family and friends.

The family would like to offer their sincere thanks and appreciation to the caregivers and staff for the amazing and compassionate care John received at Community Hospice at St. Peter’s and NYOH.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2024 at 3:00 pm at Colonie Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 6167 Depot Road, Altamont, NY 12009. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of John may be sent to Community Hospice of Albany (givetocommunityhospice.org/donate/), 310 S. Manning Blvd., Albany, NY 12208.
