John R. Adams, 75, of Westchester Drive, died on Saturday November 27, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer. He passed away at the VA Hospital in Albany NY surrounded by his loving wife and son.
John was born to John G and Shirley (Roemer) Adams on March 11,1946 in, Albany, N.Y. He attended Colonie Central High School.
John loved his country. He served in the US Air Force from 1964 – 1968 as an aircraft mechanic. A few years after being honorably discharged, he began his hospitality and restaurant career. He was employed as an Inn Keeper for 12 years with the Holiday Inn prior to becoming Regional Manager. John had a great love for the restaurant business and overall loved being with people. He and his wife, Sue, became successful entrepreneurs in the restaurant business. They started The Trolley Stop Pub on Central Avenue and then Kirker’s Steak and Seafood in Latham, which they owned for 17 years.
John was a warm and loving individual who spent a lot of time talking to his customers. Many of these people became lifelong friends. As one of his friends described him, “he was the captain of his own ship”. He loved golfing, fishing, having lunch with the guys and living life to his fullest. Even semi-retired, he was the manager of Bourbon Street Wine and Liquor in Amsterdam. He was one of a kind, and will truly be missed.
Besides his parents, he is pre-deceased by his daughter, Cherryl Adams and his parents.
He leaves his wife of 33 years Susan (Persico) Adams; a son, Jay Adams, a sister Joni (Jim) Albert; a brother, Jeff (Diane) Adams, extended family; Scott Stalker, Bruce O’Brien, Kristine Zinnanti, 9 grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Monday, December 6, 2021 at Cannon Funeral Home, 2020 Central Avenue, Colonie. Calling hours will be held from 10:30am to 12:30pm at the funeral home. Funeral service will follow at 12:30pm-1:15pm. A Committal Service with Military Honors will follow at Saratoga National Cemetery at 2:30pm. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests that you donate to the VA Hospital, Albany NY.
