Leland, NC - Joan Conlin, native of Albany NY, passed away January 7, 2022, just one day shy of her 94th birthday. Born to Marion and Archibald White, she was the eldest of four daughters. At the age of seventeen she graduated Albany High School and went to work for the New York Telephone Company, stories of which she loved to tell her great-grandchildren of operating the lines and switches back in the "old days." She married the love of her life, Thomas E. Conlin, Sr. on May 3, 1947, they lived in Albany for many years they then moved to Latham, NY to raise their three children. They then spent their time with summers in NY and winters in St. Petersburg, Florida with countless road trips in between. In 2007 Tom and Joan moved to Wilmington, NC.
Joan is survived by her sister Margaret (Peggy) Coons, affectionately called #3 to Joan, brothers-in-law Howard T. Coons, Edward Beebe, and Richard Olszowy, children Kathleen Harrington, Susan (Frank) Coraldi , and Thomas (Toni) Conlin, Jr., and grandchildren Michael (Lisa) Tallman, Jennifer Tallman-Setford, Rachael (Anthony) Littlejohn, Shannon (Raminta) Tallman, Carrie Joan (Clay) Hanley, Kate Hanley Burns, and Thomas (Bridget) Conlin. She was predeceased by her parents, husband Tom, and sisters, Judith Farrell and Barbara Olszowy, brother-in-law Donald Farrell, grandson Robert J. Hanley of the USMC and son-in-law Charles Harrington.
Joan's greatest pride was being able to say she was not only a grandmother of eight, a great-grandmother of thirteen, but a great-great grandmother of another eight, for each of which, when she was able, she sewed a special Afghan. She loved puzzles and keeping a daily journal, holding her treasured memories and valued wisdom to be passed down to the many generations she leaves behind.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Joan’s family on Friday, March 4th, 2022 from 10:00 am to 12 :00 pm at Cannon Funeral Home, 2020 Central Ave., Colonie. and Burial will follow at Memory Gardens.
