Colonie – Jean Ella DelSanto, of Colonie, peacefully entered into eternal life on Tuesday September 24, 2024. She was the daughter of the late Dorothy (VanWie) and Clarence Feiden, and the beloved wife of the late John DelSanto.
Jean lost both of her parents by the time she was ten, but that didn’t keep her from becoming a devoted mom, aunt, gram, mimi and gigi. Family meant everything to Jean. She loved fiercely and would do anything for those she loved.
Jean was the devoted mother of Carole (Bill) VanAlstyne, Laurie (Will) DelSanto and Danielle (Robb) DelSanto-Snyder. She was also the cherished grandmother of Jonathan (Rachel) VanAlstyne, Kerry (Brendan) Wrenn, Rachael (Mike) Mann, Lindsey (Kris) Rockwell, Rebecca DelSanto, Jonah and Lila Snyder. Jean lived a long life and was able to love her great grandchildren as well; Adrianna, Brielle, Emalyn and Lucas VanAlstyne, Henry, Charlotte and Maxwell Wrenn and Sophia Mann. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews who were dear to her heart.
Jean had a passion and true gift for sewing and knitting. She displayed her flawless talent by making many beautiful things for her family…from sweaters and hats to Halloween costumes and matching nightgowns, handmade Christmas stockings once you made it into the family and blankets for the newest additions to our family, prom gowns and even her own mother of the bride dress! Jean could be counted on at a moment’s notice to hem, repair or replicate just about anything. She never took shortcuts and believed in doing things the right way or "her way".
She was extremely successful as a manager of Tupperware. She held the best parties, demonstrations and record of sales. Jean was a PTA president and supported her children by being very involved in their extracurricular activities. Jean loved to watch MLB, NFL and NBA games. Although, her most favorite players were her grandchildren and great grandchildren as she hardly ever missed a game.
Jean's expertise went far beyond handcrafts. She gave many curly perms to the girls of the family and cut John's hair later in life, when he didn’t have much to cut. Her family knew she was the go-to for the best advice on stain removal, remedies for a cold, the best recipes (especially pies) and having anyone’s phone number you could ever need, right in her little brown book. Her family needed to call on her wisdom so often that her husband John, eventually answered the phone saying, “Hang on. Let me get your mother/grandmother for you,” before we even made the request.
Among Jean's favorite things besides her family was ice cream, her hidden stash of candy and hugs, kisses and cuddles. To know her, was to love her. Her presence will truly be missed!
