LAKE LUZERNE – Janice “Jan” M. Buhrmaster, 75, formerly of Schenectady, passed away peacefully at her residence in Lake Luzerne on Monday, November 11, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

Jan was born in Albany and was the daughter of the late Robert Weis and Marie Johnson Weis Johnston. Jan graduated from Maria College with a degree in nursing. She was employed for over thirty-five years as a registered nurse at Ellis Hospital, where she found her professional calling in the operating room. Jan excelled in various roles, including peri-operative nurse educator, interim OR nurse manager, charge nurse, and circulator. Additionally, she contributed her expertise as a Certified Pain Service Registered Nurse for Schenectady Anesthesia Associates.

Jan was a longtime advocate for the local arts at Proctors and SPAC, where she enjoyed attending musicals, ballet performances, and the symphony. She loved spending time at the Saratoga Race Course and was a fan of the New York Mets, Giants, Knicks, and Villanova Basketball. Jan loved shopping and considered herself quite the matchmaker. Above all, she cherished entertaining family and friends. In 2014, Jan and her husband, George, relocated to Lake Luzerne.

Jan is the beloved wife of George E. Buhrmaster, with whom she shared 55 wonderful years of marriage. She is the devoted mother of Erin Buhrmaster of Arlington, VA, and Peter (Cassandra) Buhrmaster of Niskayuna. Jan is the cherished grandmother of Maya, Kyra, and Anya Buhrmaster. She is the sister of Robert (Nancy) Weis, Sandra (Larry) Grant, Joseph (Jennifer) Weis, and David (Rebecca) Weis. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday morning at 10:00 am at St. John the Evangelist Church. There will be no calling hours. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont. Memorial contributions may be made to High Peaks Hospice, 1247 Dix Ave. Hudson Falls, NY 12839.
