Colonie –
James J. Yodis, 94, of Waterman Avenue died on October 14,2021 at his home surrounded by his family.
Born in Albany, NY he was the son of Charles and Grazi (Preska) Yodis. He grew up on Sheridan Avenue where his father operated a blacksmith shop. Later, he and his brothers converted the blacksmith shop into a truck body-building shop.
He was a Veteran of World War II, serving as a Sergeant in the Army in northern Italy.
On April 20, 1952, he married Grace Mantia
Later, James worked as a machinist at the Watervliet Arsenal.
In retirement, Jim remained active and enjoyed bird watching, gardening, and woodworking. He was very sociable and known for his sense of humor and always provided a laugh.
Besides his parents, he is pre-deceased by a sister and two brothers: Alexander and Sid Yodis.
James is survived by his wife of 69 years, Grace Yodis; his children Linda (Budd) Robinson, Elaine Yodis (Richard Kesel), and James Yodis (Jane Kearsing) and his two grandchildren, Corie Yodis and Lane Kesel.
A calling hour will be held from 10:30am to 11:30am followed by a prayer service at 11:30am on Saturday, October 16 at Cannon Funeral Home, 2020 Central Avenue, Colonie. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Colonie.
