James D. Squadere

March 7, 1942 — February 2, 2023

COLONIE – James D. Squadere, 80, of Colonie, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 2, 2023, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.

Jim was born on March 7, 1942, in Troy and was the son of the late Nicholas and Anna Squadere. Jim graduated from LaSalle High School in Troy, class of 1960.  He then attended Hudson Valley Community College and later obtained his Bachelor’s degree from Russell Sage College.  Jim served in the US Army from 1963 through 1965. Jim then began his career with Adirondack Steel and Consolidated foundries until 1983.  His years of experience in the steel industry enabled him to start his own business as a manufacturer’s representative.  He successfully owned and operated L&D Associates, an international metals business for 38 years, traveling all over the world. Jim developed business partnerships that evolved into personal friendships. If you were a business partner or customer, you were a personal friend.  From his principals in the USA, Canada, England, Scotland, Germany, Italy, Spain, and India, to some of his largest customers GE, Westinghouse, Exon Mobil and Flo Serv he delivered the parts that powered the world.  Jim’s tag lines for his business were “Two-Thirds of the world is covered by water, the rest by us” and “All metals for all industries”.

Jim enjoyed golfing with his friends here in New York and at his place in Sarasota Florida.  He cherished his time with his late brother-in-law Dr. Andrew Wood where they golfed together for 44 years in the Member Guest Tournament at Albany Country Club. He also supported the Colonie Dare and Ciao Tournaments each year with his dear friend and cousin Michael J. Hoblock and many others. If Jim was not working, he could be found visiting with friends at Dee Dee’s a tavern in Latham NY.

He is the beloved husband of 57 years to Beverly (Wood) Squadere. Jim is the devoted father of Lisa S. Squadere and Denise M. (Christopher) Deso. He is the brother of Francis “Bob” Squadere and Lawrence (Linda) Squadere. Jim is the brother-in-law of John (Suzan) Wood, Mary Gay Wood and Patricia Wood. He is the much-loved Poppi of James, Christina, Joseph and Gianna.  He is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Jim was predeceased by his parents and brothers William (Terry) Squadere and Nicholas (Lil)Squadere.  His sister in law Donna Squadere and niece Karen (Squadere) Gureckis.

Jim’s family would like to thank his longtime friend and primary care physician Dr. Gerald Hausler (Center for Family Practice) the wonderful staff at Community Hospice of Albany and Attentive Care for their kind and compassionate care.
