James J. Maloy

ALBANY - James Joseph Maloy passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 10, 2022, at the Our Lady of
Mercy Life Center in Guilderland, New York.
James was born in Peekskill, New York to James and Mary Catherine Maloy. He was a proud veteran
who served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. In his youth he was a scholar and athlete,
achieving a Master’s Degree in Political Science from SUNY Albany while being an avid long-distance
runner and competing in several marathons. He was a voracious reader, amassing a personal collection
of more than a thousand books on topics such as history and philosophy, and was a regular at the local
library for anything he didn’t already own himself. James was also a life-long civil servant, working for
various state agencies before finally settling on Albany County Department for Aging, where he worked
for more than 28 years.
James is survived by his wife Amparo Maloy and their daughter Justine Maloy, his former spouse
Frances Maloy and their daughters Frances Rios and Victoria Lewis, who loved him unconditionally, his
sister Frances (Gigi) Maloy, as well as seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
